Upgrading rather than dismantling, making the most of what already exists rather than rebuilding from scratch. Engineering projects today increasingly demand cutting-edge skills in reuse to achieve a more sustainable vision of the built environment. At NFIC, we’re constantly honing our skills in this field, and the latest competition we won is a perfect example.
Inaugurated in 1992, the Eaux-Minérales ice rink in Morges has become an iconic landmark of the town. But the building, which was extremely energy-intensive, required major renovation work to meet the challenges of energy transformation.
It was against this backdrop that the town of Morges organised a competition. The objective? To find a provider who can transform the ice rink into a model of sustainability and convert it into a year-round, multi-use sports facility capable of hosting other sporting activities, including climbing, fencing and more.
The project submitted by NFIC, Romande Energie, Fehlmann Architectes, Amstein+Walthert and ZERO-C impressed the jury with its approach to sustainability. Rather than rebuilding everything, the aim is to preserve the rink’s strong identity, transforming only what is necessary in order to meet the new uses and to minimise energy consumption.
This project is also an opportunity for our firm to showcase its experience in the field of reuse, which includes repurposing part of the spectator seating on the west side of the rink by converting it into new partitions and a small amphitheatre facing the south entrance. New local timber structures will be developed for the facade and interior. In addition, the entire structure will be re-evaluated and reinforced, with no less than 1,900 m² of solar panels to be installed on the roof.
The Eaux-Minérales ice rink will ultimately be able to meet its new needs in terms of space and surface area. It will be better insulated and more environmentally friendly, while retaining the features that have characterised it over the years.
Work is scheduled to start in October 2026 and run until the end of 2028. Thank you to all our partners and the town of Morges for this wonderful opportunity to participate in the life of our region and to contribute to the long-term future of this building.
With over 25 years of experience, Nicolas Fehlmann Ingénieurs Conseils SA (NFIC) places innovation and optimization at the heart of its civil engineering projects. Driven by the desire to pass on these core values, we welcomed six children, including five young girls, to our Morges office on Thursday, November 14, 2024, as part of the Oser Tous les Métiers Day (JOM). This event provided a unique opportunity to raise awareness among younger generations about the importance of designing sustainable, resource-efficient structures while discovering the exciting profession of civil engineering.
NFIC's expertise in reuse is once again put to good use. In association with Romande Energie, Fehlmann Architectes, Amstein+Walthert and ZERO-C, our firm has just won a major competition to renovate and transform the Eaux-Minérales ice rink in Morges.
Sablier Sàrl, Gérald Gerber Architecte and NFIC submitted an outstanding proposal for the competition to construct the new Jonction water sports park. A project that reveals new perspectives in the construction industry.
We welcomed six girls aged between 10 and 12 during the ‘’Journée Oser Tous les Métiers’’ (JOM) on Thursday, November 9th, 2023. This atelier allows girls to learn more about technical jobs through activities, presentations, and visits of construction sites. This workshop enables girls to learn more about technical professions through activities, presentations, and construction site visits.
Commissioned by the municipality of Echandens, NFIC has just won the study and implementation phase of the future school complex in Echandens (VD), a project developed by the Geneva-based architectural firm dl-c designlab-construction. This exciting scheme will allow us to showcase our analytical abilities and expertise in low-carbon buildings.
Structural works on a Minergie-P/ECO certified eco district demand a proven track record in sustainable construction. This challenge was brilliantly taken up by our team of concrete and recycled materials experts whose specialist knowledge was a real asset to the project.
In association with several renowned offices, NFIC was awarded the contract for the Aigle-Leysin railway line expansion project. This particular railway engineering project asserts our ambitions in this sector and demonstrates, once again, how important sustainable development is to us.
Pushing the boundaries also means constantly exploring new avenues of approach and new ideas. With Hello, Concrete, NFIC is helping to create an exhibition pavilion made entirely of 3D printed concrete. An extraordinary project to be experienced in the prestigious setting of the Vitra Design Museum.
On 3 September, the Beaulieu Theatre revealed its new face after a three-year renovation. This long-term project is part of a much larger conversion in which NFIC made a significant contribution. The kind of challenge we relish!
When NFIC's know-how is combined with an ecological and participatory approach, you can be sure the result will be something special! Welcome to the 2000-Watt Site at Églantine in Morges, a visionary project in which we are particularly proud to have played a part.
To mark its 25th anniversary in style, NFIC is celebrating with three very tall candles! The engineering company concludes the year by winning two daring projects including three emblematic towers.
The entire NFIC team was in China for a team-building event like no other.
Several of our employees participated in the 49th New York City Marathon in November 2019.
After being unveiled in Basel, the giant pencil made by NFIC was installed as a venue for concerts and performances in the heart of Zurich.
Congratulations to Loïc Devenoge and Noah Luinetti, who successfully obtained their CFC qualification in civil draughting.
Our firm is through to the second round of the competition organised by the City of Geneva.
NFIC is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. A quarter of a century dedicated to pushing the boundaries with imagination.
