Located in the Morges Gare Sud district, the Léman Campus is expanding with a new wing known as Building C. This third wing completes the transformation of the former "Pasta Gala" pasta factory, now converted into the European headquarters of the pharmaceutical company Incyte. Situated in a dense urban fabric and directly adjacent to the CFF railway tracks, the project presented several major technical challenges. Among them: 8-meter cantilevers on the south side and 4 meters on the north, construction work in close proximity to the railway lines, excavation of a basement within the groundwater table, and structural connection to the existing building without causing differential settlement. All of these challenges required precise coordination and bespoke engineering solutions.
To meet these challenges, NFIC applied all its expertise in complex structural engineering. The cantilevers were constructed using prestressed slabs, ensuring optimal control of forces and deformations. The proximity to the CFF railway lines required close coordination with the railway authorities, enabling the adoption of an adapted construction method: works carried out from within the site, using cantilevered scaffolding to comply with railway clearance limits. To build within the water table, a watertight excavation enclosure was deployed, accompanied by a full waterproofing lining to ensure the basement’s impermeability. Finally, a pile foundation system stabilized the entire structure and ensured a controlled connection to the existing building, eliminating the risk of differential settlement. A project carried out with precision, rigor, and technical mastery.
